Blues Fest 2012 Day 5
Mason Duffy and James Hunter Close Out the Weekend
The last day of the Waterfront Blues Festival was predictably the hottest day yet, with temperatures dancing around 90 degrees in the peak of the day. But people had high spirits, even if they were nursing a sun burn.
James Hunter brought a soulful sound to the stage in the late afternoon, with a hint of 50's rock'n'roll. The swinging sax duo that backed him up kept things muddy but moving. The man himself was in high spirits, egging the crowd into dancing in the afternoon heat, his own brow coated in sweat as he coaxed gut wrenching notes out of his hollow body guitar.
Duffy Bishop was every throughout the five days of this year's festival, from signing in the Etta James tribute, to showing up on stage with Too Slim and the Taildraggers. Well, she started her early evening set with a stroll through the crowd, crooning to every person she came into contact with before finally climbing up on stage to perform an extremely energetic set, as she has a tendency to do.
The sun set beautifully over the sky line as Bishop wound down, and people were already buzzing for the final act of the evening, Steve Miller Band, who sadly has a strict no photo policy for everyone, so we ended our weekend listening to some classic tunes from a band where everyone knows at least one of their songs word for word.
Best news all weekend was the finally tally for donations, which was around $860,000 raised for the Oregon Food Bank!
See you all next year at the Waterfront!
